Silly Meow-Me and Naughty Bernie

Meow-Me thinks she's a koala-cat
See how clean my towel is? Yeah, that's right, Mommy. It's because I'm not wearing that ridiculous cone!

As most of you know, Bernie had his left foot amputated on Friday. We went back to the vet on Sunday to get the bandage changed and his incision was healing very nicely.  When we got home, we removed the e-collar so he could eat and groom himself. A little later, we went out to get some groceries and when we got home, the collar was off, his bandage was almost off and he had pulled out a stitch, leaving a little gaping hole. We bandaged him back as well as we could and brought him to the vet on Monday. And it was then that the vet declared he had not only ripped out one stitch, but he had also loosen a few other stitches which meant the stitches had to be removed and the site stitched up again.  Bernie, Bernie. Now when we put the collar back on, we have to do the "tug-test" to make sure it's very secure. My heart thumps harder and louder every time I check on Bernie for fear of what I may find...

Bernie has also been throwing tantrums every time he has his collar on. He would pee and scatter poop all over the towels instead of his litter box (he's litter box trained) which means there's that many towels I have to wash. Today, I put bed pads on top of the towels, so hopefully it helps to make cleaning easier.

I really hope there will be no more "excitements" until 7 June when he goes back to the vet to have the stitches removed. We'll try to visit everyone soon...till then, don't forget us!

  2. We hope your ouchie heals up soon Bernie but if you keep taking off that bandage and biting your wound you could find you are wearing it for a long time. We are crossing our paws and hoping he won't do it again.

  9. Oh Bernie, you remind me way too much of my Ollie. I feared dealing with his VAS due to his intense dislike of being locked away, and even intenser dislike of the cone of shame. I left him alone for a short while with out it and he ripped out most of his stitches too!

I hope you heal up right quick and aren't subject to such indignities of a human who loves and cares for you more then you can understand much longer :)

  13. Bernie, that is such a pain to wear that darn collar isn't it. We don't blame you one bit for chewing off the bandage. Maybe Mom could put something on the bandage that would taste really bad. Hope you keep that collar on and the bandage on too.
Meow me, you do look silly on that tree. Have a great day.

  17. Bernie, PLEASE let mom take care of you and NO more tantrums. That makes it extra hard for mom and more and more work. That's not thoughtful, and I know you want to show mom some gratitude for all she has done for you.

Be a good boy. Tell me you will.

  29. my Angel Bobo had done the same thing years ago when his cone was removed.

Instead of the cone the vet put on an elastic bandage type of thing that he couldn't chew off. It worked. Can they do that for Bernie?

  31. oh poor thing! rocket was horrible when they had to remove a growth on his leg. we tried everything, including the e collar and he learned how to remove everything and get to his stitches. it was a long 2 weeks and he had only a couple stitches by the time we took him to get them taken out. :(
