Tortie Thursday

Tutu is now strong enough to jump onto the kitchen counters and she's found her love...Mr Dishy, the dish cloth.
Jumping up the counter....easy peasy!
Hello darling Dishy...your beloved Tutu is here
Slowly does it
*H O P*
Now the tricky bit...
Don't worry, Dishy Darling...I've got a firm grip on ya....
Just a few more feet and we'll be all alone to enjoy each other....
Help me, Tutu!!! The evil Human has gotten hold of me!
Tutu won't let you go without a fight!
Tutu's crazy about this particular dish cloth. I've offered her a similar dish cloth but she shows no interest. It's also becoming quite a challenge to keep her safe from hot stoves and even kitchen waste. We've tried using the spray bottle on her but she doesn't even flinch. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to keep her from getting into things other than to lock her in a cage?

She sure is a cutie, and she's obsessed with that dishrag. I've never had a cat with an obsession, so sorry, can't help you.

I understand. Or my mommy does. I know that Tutu may keep the dish cloth but it IS a deep concern that she is jumping up near or on the stove. I myself have jumped up onto the stove. Luckily while mom was in the kitchen so she really said a sharp NO and made me get down. She is afraid I may do it when the burner os hot. After booking she outs a cold pan on the hot burner to help bring the temp down quickly in case her back is turned and I jump up!

The kitchen waste..I have tried that too. Mom dumped some Arm and Hammer baking soda into the bottom to keep any food smells from coming out and of course she empties it each day. She also got a tight fitting lid that I cannot open to go onto the kitchen waste can.

We inquisitive girls are a bit challanging.

These pictures were sweet and charming and Tutu is a beautiful little girl.

xoxoxoxo to my Boomie.

sorry for the typos. After COOKING she PUTS a cold pan on the burner to take the temp down.

Tutu is certainly growing quickly!

We have no suggestions re: her dishcloth obsession, other than to let her have that one and buy ones that are different colours. LOL.

Tutu you are a funny one. Have a great Thursday!

Mom hasn't figured it out yet and we are much older than Tutu. She does hide foods that are cooling in the microwave until she puts them in the fridge. :) As to the dish towel, you may just have to surrender.

We have to agree. That should be Tutu's dish cloth. She worked so hard to get it. The hot stove, I just don't know except maybe shut her out of the kitchen while cooking. The kitties here know when Mom says No, she means it. We don't like it when she raises her voice. TuTu just needs to grow out of all those darn tricks. She is so cute.

Oh I am so glad Tutu is stronger, but she can sure get in trouble up there.

Connie - Tails from the Foster Kittens said...

if you can give it to her give it to her so she doesn't counter surf to get it :) If you don't feel she should have it, then I'm afraid that one should either be thrown away or you need to make sure you never leave it out.

You also have to be completely consistent with what is OK and what isn't. When you laugh at her when she gets up on the counter and take pictures of her stealing a dish towel and make sounds that sound encouraging (even if the words say no) then you are simply confusing her when sometimes you say no.

Don't think I'm chiding you or anything, cause I have been and continue to be exactly in your same shoes. Fleurp LOVES getting up on the counter because it is where the action is. It worked for me for a while because I could medicate her there and not worry about someone else stealing it. But now that medication is over she doesn't understand why I get grumpy when she is where it was OK to be before. And sometimes we say "oh Fleurp get down" because we want to remind her with out yelling at her or upsetting her, but the tone of voice is so sweet and singsong that if you were to substitute any other words it would almost sound like praise. I have to remember to be firm, to catch her the second she starts going up there because if she sits there for any length of time it only encourages her that it is OK. and if you can't stand being firm, you might want to invest in a can of compressed air. Just squirt it off (not at her) and that sound will get her running.

You have to remember that the bulk of the action in the kitchen happens at counter height and cats HATE not being a part of the action. especially when there is food involved ;)

Just an aside, I like I love Tutu just a little bit more after this post..

My neighbor tried double sided tape to keep her cats off the counters. It worked pretty well

Oh Tutu, you are pretty darn cute even when you are doing something humans think is bad! We hope your mom finds a way to keep you off the counters so you don't get hurt!

Dachshund Nola said...

Pee.S. Sadly, it's safest for me to keep the huge rabies tag on. If I ever got lost and got hurt (provided someone took me to a vet) it's the quickest way to get me in, as a lot of vets won't see animals without proof of rabies. It's also in my microchip info, but seeing a tag is much quicker then scanning and finding out if the shot is UTD

Tutu is so cute having dish cloth in her mouth. One of my boys loves washing cloth that I use to clean my body in shower. He often gets and drags it like Tutu does.
He loves to get on counter, too. Since he likes to see what is going on around sink area, we put a stool in front of it. He sits on the stool and watch what we are doing. He still tries to get on counter, but the stool helps a lot.
In the past we tried sticky tape on the counter, but it did not work. I hope you find a good solution!

Tutu is ADORABLE, LOL kittehs are just like puppies it seems - we are still learning about all this cat stuff from you :)

How adorable! We think you should just give her that dish cloth. If she keeps returning, it's time to leave sumthing she doesn't like up there. (such as double-sided tape)

Gigi said...

The Human says: Double-sided tape got Spitty to stop clawing the furniture. Maybe worth a try? And I agree with those who say give her the dish cloth ;-)

Spitty says: Good going, Tutu! Great initiative and excellent planning and jumping skills. ::appaws:: ::appaws::

Oh! P.S. Half & half is an equal mixture of cream and milk, used mostly in coffee or tea.

It's deeeelishus!!!!

Hopefully it will be OK for Tutu to have that particular dish rag. The water bottle has always worked for us.

Tutu, we wanna know what the attraction is to Mr. Dishy.

Our mom gave up trying to keep us off the counters and the stove. Though she gets concerned when the stove is hot, so she keeps a tea kettle on the stove and puts it on the hot burner when she's done cooking just in case. And we have learned the word "HOT!"

Willow said...

Tutu you have quiet the hold on Mr. Dishy.
I've been a bit naughty lately and what Mom does is move things around to a different place so can not get somewhere.

Andrea and the Celestial Kitties said...

Oh my gosh! She really has a hold on that dishy doesnt she?? MOL!

We used to have a kitty who would just squint at us when we'd get him with the squirt bottle..

Once, in an attempt to keep kitties off the counters, we left water puddles all over them because kitties hate wet paws. I don't recommend that for all kinds of counters, though it did work for us. Of course, once the water evaporated and/or we got tired of watering the counters, they were back up there.. sigh

Lovely Tutu!! You are too adorable for words but you mustn't go on hot counters and things dangerous like that! Hopefully once you learn they are not nice, you'll stop!! You are just being a curious kitty! Take care

Oh Tutu your antics give Mom and I the biggest chuckles and smiles! :D You have definitely claimed that dishcloth as yours :) Please do stay off the stove. No burned paws for Tutu k?! Maybe Bert's tip will work fur yaz. Hsin-Yi over at Honey the Great Danes blog might have a tip as well. She's spent a good amount of time training Muesli on a variety of things.

Waggin at ya,

I'm sorry but that was soooo funny!!!

Cody isn't allowed on the counter either (but he does it anyway, mostly if I am MIA)...if I catch him I firmly yell "NO" while clapping my hands. I know he still does it, he is just smart enough to do it when I am not around

meowmeowmans said...

Tutu, maybe your human can just give you the dish cloth, so that you don't have to go up on that counter? There's a lot of danger up there, sweet one.

Tutu, you are ADORABLE!!!
I'm pretty sure you've picked Mr. Dishy because he's pink. Glogirly says the best ones are ALWAYS the pink ones.

Hey--Do you think they might have a litter of furry little dishcloths?

Gattina said...

Lol, how cute you look fighting for your dish cloth ! Just keep it ! your mom can take another one !
I always put a pan or a pot with water on the hot stove, big enough not to cover the hot surface. Because Arthur still jumps up there to check for better food ! The kitchen bin is under the sink safe behind a closed door. But there are also big bins she wouldn't be able to open. Spray bottles never helped, not even with plants, which one kitten always used as litter box until I put wooden spikes in the earth, lol !

Oh dear, I suck at everything cat related.

I hope you guys find something to help Tutu stop going up to those dangerous stuff.

Hopefully, she gets to learn from Boomer and the others.

How cute! Our kitty, Toby, who came before, had a "girlfriend" he dragged around. Maybe just concede the dish cloth and let Tutu enjoy her "boyfriend".

Thanks for all your kind words while we were forced from blogging! It meant a lot to know people were there commiserating.
