Hammock, Part 2

Thank you to all our furriends for their suggestions after the first attempt at sewing the hammock! Mommy bought a new type of fleece and Grandma got busy then when Grandpa and Grandma came to visit yesterday, they brought us a new hammock!

Are you going to give it a try, Coco?
Coco : Errrrr, I don't think so
Felix : Okay, okay. I will test it out. I sure hope I don't *sink* again...
*sits gingerly*
3...2......1....
Felix : HEY! It didn't sink and it is super comfy!
Meow-Me : Can you see how pretty the trimmings are? Grandma did such a beautiful job!
Felix : LOOK! The both of us can fit in the hammock and it holds up really well!
Boomer : It may be pink but it doesn't faze a confident mancat like me!
Katie darling, I'll bring the hammock when I come visit and we can snuggle.  xoxo
Boomer : Can't wait for Mommy to finish getting my snacks ready so I can fire up the tunnel and visit my girl!
You may kiss my toes while I wait...
Hey. Introoder on our blog! Who are you!?
This is a stray intact tomcat who liked to visit the kitties as they lounged at the catio but it would get Boomer all riled up. I managed to catch him on Wednesday night with the help of my brother who came by to visit. He (the cat, not my brother) was neutered on Thursday and spent a night before being released on Friday afternoon. Here he is just after being released.
Boomer : Spitty, if you look *closely*, you might be able to see something oddly and eerily familiar to your very recent "tutoring" session. MOL.
Thank you Grandma! The hammock is perfect and so well made! We LOVE it! *kiss*

White White Update And Puffer Boomer

We released White White on 31 January 2012. His eyes are much better though he is partially blind in his left eye. He stayed around for 3 days before finding his way to the back after which, he decided he no longer knew me. Which is fine because that means he's feeling good.

Thank you, everyone for your purrs and prayers. As you can see, my eyes are much better
Day 1 of his release
Who's that out there?
OMC. It's my nemesis, White White!
Boomer was really upset and he was puffed up for quite sometime
Wait till I get my paws on him...
I AM NOT HAPPY. Why would you let him hang around MY territory?

2012 New Year Resolution

My 2012 New Year resolution is to homecook for all the furries (Whisky's been on homecook since 2008). The following pictures are the 2nd batch of homecook I made. Forgot to take pictures when I made the first batch.

Mashed chicken meat with some veggies.  No grains
Ready to be served
I add some oats to Whisky's portion.  She LOVES it
Ling doesn't really mind it
Meow-me tucking in.  I hope giving her homecooked meals can help bring her weight down
Felix
Coco
Boomer
Cosmo : You want me to eat *that*?  Really?
I had expected resistance from Cosmo as he isn't into *human* food.  So was pleasantly surprised when he finished everything
Ling didn't finish her portion so I had put it on the stairs for her.  This is what I saw when I came back...
Portions to be placed in the fridge and freezer
This is White White.  His eyes are much better but will remain with me for at least another week to finish the medicine.  He's quite the sweetheart and loves scritches
I add supplements into the food to make sure they aren't missing anything.  They still get kibbles for breakfast.  The homecooked is for dinner.  Does anyone else homecook for their furries?

Stumpy and White White

Stumpy and White White are two males that we managed to capture and neuter last year.  They return to our back alley daily to eat.

Stumpy tucks into yummy tuna
Stumpy looks very well and is less afraid of me though he won't let me near him. I noticed that White White had "black eyeliners", around 3 weeks ago but he was otherwise okay.  On Friday night, my heart went cold when I saw that his right eye was sealed shut while his left eye was cloudy.

What he looked like when I caught him
After cleaning the eyes with saline
He allowed me to scruff him and put him in the carrier without any fuss which was very surprising. I cleaned out his eyes with saline and thankfully the right eye looked okay.  The left eye had a corneal ulceration.  I took him to the vet on Saturday morning and the vet said it was bad, but should recover with treatment. So we went home with oral antibiotics, antibiotic drops and antibiotic ointment.

After the eye drops and ointment.  He doesn't put up a fight during medication. And he doesn't bother the eye so there's no need to put the E collar on him
It's suspected that he had conjunctivitis (the black eyeliner period) which led him to paw at his eye which may have caused a scratched cornea and later an ulceration.  We should see significant reduction in the swelling within 2 days and possibly a full recovery in 10 days.  Till then, he'll stay at our porch (caged).

He's very well behaved, has good appetite and seem to be quite content to stay in the cage
Some purrs that he continues to cooperate and make a full recovery would be much appreciated!

Mr Stumps and Friends

Last night Cosmo and Ling were sitting at the table top that overlooks the back alley, minding their own business, and this new male cat turns up (he started appearing about 3 weeks ago). Cosmo started to shout which got Ling all upset so she started to shout too. So I grabbed Cosmo and yelled for Hubby to grab Ling and we put them in separate rooms. And Whisky in another room. Then I got busy.

Out came the trap and the cans of stinky goodness. I set up the trap with Mr Cat watching my every move.  When I was done, I went back into the house and waited.  Mr Cat was STARVING coz it took less than 5 minutes before he was caught!  Hubby came to help me put the cat into the carrier and then I set the trap again (just for fun) and 10 minutes later, "clink" went the trap.  ANOTHER CAT! I couldn't believe my eyes so I set up the trap again.  30 minutes later, "clink, MEW" and I looked at Hubby in disbelief!  Really?  So now we had 3 strange cats in the house (but NO Mr Black - though he did turn up to sniff at the tuna but ran off when he recognised the trap.  We'll have to work out a plan to catch him with the net)...

Hey! Let me out!
This is Mr Cat aka Mr Stumps (cat #1) who has a limp. Turns out he has no toes on his left hind paw, either from an accident or in the hands of a demented human.  The injury has healed completely and there's some muscle wastage which makes the vet think the injury could be a year old
Here is another view of the toe-less paw compared to his normal paw (it looks like he's just curled his toes down, doesn't it?)
Hungry hungry Mr Stumps!  He had a good appetite but is still very woozy from the sedation so we will keep him for the night before releasing him.  He went to straight to sleep after dinner.  He is a very large cat but rather underweight at the moment
This was Cat #2.  We released him after the vet confirmed he was a castrated male. Oops...heehee.  He showed his disgust and anger by shredding the stack of newspapers I had placed in the carrier.  Sorry Mr Tabby!
Cat #3 was very friendly so we checked it out.  We think it's a spayed female and someone's pet because she's very clean and friendly.  We released her that same night
Ideally, Mr Stumps should be an indoors only cat as being a 3 legged stray can be very tough and challenging.   If anyone would like to give Mr Stumps a home, or know someone who might, please get in touch with me.  Although we'll be releasing him tomorrow, I plan to feed him so hopefully he'll trust me enough to let me get close enough to monitor his well being.

Our Pawrents Have Gone Nuts

Mummy and Daddy went out this evening and brought this wierd thing home
What is it, Mummy?
It's called a net
Oh.  What is it for?

It's meant for fish but can be used to catch little doggies like you too.  Hee hee

Lemme out!  Lemme OUT!

It can be used to catch little kitties too
Help me, Felix!!

Don't worry, big sis!  I'll get you out!

Freedom!! Thanks, little bro!
Mummy here : We bought this net to see if we can catch Mr Black with it.  Mr Black has proven to be extremely elusive and too smart for his own good.  He won't go near the trap though he would eat the tuna when placed far away from the trap. Unfortunately, there have been new intact males that have encroached into his territory and the ensuing fights have resulted in him injuring his hind leg and he is now limping.  We hope to catch him real soon and get his leg and mange treated and also have him neutered. I find that time is no longer on our side, especially with the injury to his leg so I need to resort to using a net.  I don't think it will be easy with the net either but we'll see. Wish me luck!

We tried using the net with our furries and it is very effective. Don't worry.  No furkids were harmed during our little experiment and they probably thought it was a new game.  :-)

Trying To Trap Mr Black

Most of you would know I've been trying to trap the elusive Mr Black to get him treated for mange and to be neutered. I bought a new trap as the one I had borrowed wouldn't shut completely. I fried a nice sardine, put a plate of tuna behind the sardine, spread some tuna on the newspaper leading into the trap, set up the trap, hid behind the wall and waited.

The trap works like a mouse trap.  See the ginger cat?  He's my neighbour's cat.  NOT the intended target.

SHOOO!!!!!  Mr Ginger kitten starts to eat up the tuna.

SHOOOOOO!!!!!

Now Mr Ginger's older sister decides to check out the tuna

All the while I was trying to remain quiet and hidden, Noni (neighbour's cat) decides to keep me company by rubbing and mewing

HEY YOU!  SHOOOOOO!

Mr Ginger couldn't resist the tuna and finally got himself trapped.  HAPPY NOW?
So after several hours hiding, or rather, TRYING to hide, and numerous mosquito bites to show for it, I gave up and gave the remaining tuna to Noni.  And what was Mr Black doing while all these were happening? He was sitting at the opposite side of the road and I swear he was laughing.

I'm going to try to camouflage the trap with some leaves and twigs and see if it helps.  But first I'll have to speak with my neighbor to lock up his cats for the night.....And remember to put mosquito repellent the next time...
