Playing With Friends

Hi Everyone! It's me, Merlene!
Merlene and Tutu make their acquaintance
Chi Chi (Merlene's Sisfur) : What on earth?
Merlene : Hmm.....I feel something boring into my back
Merlene : *gulp*
Merlene : Yikes! Another one? What's out there? Zombieland?
Felix : Heh heh....Playing Zombie is FUN!
Tutu : Hey Pal! I INVENTED the game. Now you go away!
Felix : Oooooppsss.....lasers, OFF!

Tutu Has A Friend and Bernie Update

Tutu is doing very very well, and is now allowed to run around for a few minutes, several times a day. But she isn't allowed to climb until she gets the go ahead from the vet (her next vet visit is around the first week of June).

Maddie is the same age as Tutu (4+ months) and was rescued off a busy street as a very very young kitten by her pawrents. Her pawrents want her to socialize with her own kind and while Maddie was a little wary of the adult cats, she has found a playmate in Tutu (and vice versa) when she comes for boarding!

As they are still warming up to each other, their "play" consist of some chasing (usually Tutu does the chasing - she's like a little gangster!) and lots of Halloween Cat hops. There's no physical contact...yet.  :)

Tutu : Well, well....who do we have here?
Maddie : Eeeeek! Don't sneak up like that!
Tutu : Okay, okay...let's start over. Is this better?
Maddie : Definitely! Now, ready, steady.....GO!
Tutu : AND OFF I GO!
This picture of Tutu just makes me laugh and laugh
Kittens testing the boundaries
Bernie update : The abcess on Bernie's toe just won't clear up with the antibiotics (it was also very painful) so to prevent it from spreading and getting worst, the decision was made to amputate his foot at the mid-femur yesterday (Friday). While this might seem drastic, his foot also had nerve damage and he was dragging it around so it made a lot of sense to have it removed. He came home right after the surgery and is doing very well as a tripod bunny. We have placed carpet on the ground so he has better traction and also soft towels to prevent sores from developing on his good foot. Oh, and we help scratch his left side and left ear (and keep it clean).  He is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing so all is well. Some prayers that the incision heals without a hitch would be appreciated!  :)

Bernie : I can't see, but something seem to be missing....yup, the PAIN!
Mommy : In this photo, he isn't wearing his e-collar because I wanted to give him an opportunity to groom himself. He'll be in the collar until the wound has healed (when I'm not around to keep an eye on him)

We Have A Cat Tree!

Boomer : Hey Felix! We have a cat tree now...you don't have to climb the netting to look outside anymore
Felix : This is pawsome!
Boomer : Just the perfect height and spot to check out the outside
Meow - Me : What's in there?
Felix : ANYBODY in there?!
Boomer : Oooooffff!
Peek-A-Boo!
Thanks, Mommy. This cat tree is PERFECT!
Mommy here : We bought a cat tree for the boarding room recently so that our cats and also the boarding cats have a nice tall perch to enjoy bird / squirrel TV. All the cats took to the tree immediately, without any hesitation.  Boomer is most often on the tree, enjoying the view.  :)

Holy Moly, Look Who's Here!

Do you remember me?
How about now?
Hint : I used to be really small and stayed with the Human for a few weeks
If you guessed Merlene, you got it right! She came over on Sunday with her sister for grooming. Look at how grown up she is now. The last time I saw her was back in January where she had a ball of a time with her friends.

Boomer : Hi Merlene! Do you remember me?
Merlene : Hissssss!
Poor Boomer. He was so happy to see Merlene but she couldn't remember her friends and kept hissing at them. Boomer was heartbroken.

Boomer : Hey Felix...you'll never hiss at me, right? Promise we'll be best friends forever?
Felix : You BET!
I sent Merlene for her spay Monday morning and also to get her baby canines extracted (her permanent teeth are already out but the babies show no sign of falling off). I was with her during her surgery and brought her home as soon as she woke up. Her gums are slightly swollen (she had an anti-inflammatory shot) but she is otherwise doing fine..even ate some homecooked for dinner.  :) She'll go home in another day or two.

Monday Madness With Merlene

First of all, we would like to wish all our furriends and family a HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!  May the year of the Water Dragon bring you good health, good blessings and much happiness.

MEOW WEE!   Felix, mah man, you're so white, I need shades!
You're right.  You're definitely longer than my outstretched paws

Guess Who's Here?

It's MERLENE!

Pffffffftttt!
Hahahehehe!  Stop it!  That tickles!
GO AWAY!
That's MY basket!  Scoot!
Get O-U-T!
Nyeh nyeh...you'll have to make me!
(don't worry, the hissing was all for show only. She made no attempt to hurt Merlene in anyway and Merlene wasn't afraid of her at all)
By the next day, Meow-Me was inviting Merlene to play
Catch me if you can!!
YOU can't catch me either!
It's so nice to have Merlene boarding with us.  Her sister is here as well and though she has not embraced Merlene wholeheartedly, swatting her when she jumps on her beautiful floofy tail, the relationship is cordial. While I don't allow boarding cats to mix with other boarding cats and my own cats, I let Merlene out to play with the gang as she spent her first few weeks with us and they get along very well.  There's a lot of playing, chasing and running around among them (helps burn off those kitten energy!).
To encourage the sisters to bond, they get private play time outside as well.

A Kitten?

We have a kitten in the house!  No no, it's not staying permanently...REALLY.  A cat boarding client found a kitten mewing and wandering around his gate and he waited for the mother cat to turn up but she did not so he took it before it got mashed up on the road by passing vehicles. Then he thought...oh oh.  Now what.  It was a very young kitten (3 weeks, possibly) so he called to ask if I could foster it until it could eat solids and litter box trained. And that's how Merlene ended up at our place.

Coco was very interested in Merlene (everyone else, especially Meow-Me, hisses at her.  Poor little thing)
Ain't I just cute?  I love my horse "mummy".  Heh heh
Oooopsie!
Merlene is very active and each day brings new developments.  When she first came just 4 days ago, she was still crawling unsteadily but today she is walking quite confidently and starting to pounce on her toys.  She is still on milk and needs to be stimulated to eliminate.  I hope to transition her to babycat kibbles sometime later this week and also litter box train her at around the same time. It's such a joy to watch her grow up.

Her "sister" is here for boarding and she isn't too happy with the tiny mewing kitten. But Chi Chi is a very friendly cat so we think she would accept the kitten if introductions are done correctly.  Anyone has any tips on how to make the introductions go smoothly?  Chi Chi is an almost 4 year old spayed female who has been an only child for that many years.
