Tasty Tuesday...Or Not

Cosmo : What's this?
It's a raw diet. Aren't you excited?
Cosmo : Err...it says THAT BLOODY DIET. Is that supposed to be good?
Boomer : Did someone say BLOODY DIET?
Boomer : Mmmmm....That's Bloody Good!
Ling : Yup, this is Bloody Nice!
Cosmo?? Aren't you going to give that a try?
Tutu?? What's wrong?
Felix : * sniff sniff lick sniff sniff *
Coco : Err...you can have all of that, Felix
Felix : I think MOMMY should have all of it!
Meow-Me : Sorry, but I have to.....:: RETCH ::
Cosmo : Are you done playing games, Mommy? Is that my canned food dinner?
Yes it is, come and get it!
:: GAG ::
But it has your favorite Freeze Dried Chicken sprinkled all over!
Cosmo : YOU can have it
Freeze Dried Chicken for you, Tutu?
Tutu?
Tutu : I'm OUTTA HERE!
I had recently transitioned all the cats (except for Tutu - sadly, she's become a kibble addict) to canned. Due to stomach sensitivity, I only get carrageenan-free, grain-free and fish-free canned food for them. Unfortunately that means only THREE options are available, and to make things even more unfortunate, 2 weeks after transitioning the cats, I find out that the one they all agree on will no longer be brought into the country. So I turn to Option 2 and guess what? They have not been able to bring in the food in the last 6 months due to new documentations required by our Veterinary Department. Option 3 isn't something the cats like.

As my intention was to actually get them to eat raw ultimately, I thought this would be a good time to give raw a try. This raw diet is made locally so sourcing shouldn't be a problem. But 2 out of 7 means it's back to the drawing board. Plus after eating the raw on the first day, Ling and Boomer decided that raw isn't something they like after all. Which is a pity because this is good raw food!

Looks like I have no choice but to revert to cooking for the cats again while I try a much slower process of getting them to accept raw. Cosmo will be my biggest challenge because the other 6 will at least eat pieces of plain raw chicken.

Yeah, good luck with that. Nicki and Derry won't eat human chicken, but they WILL eat Weruva chicken and duck (has tuna as the second ingredient, though), which probably is the closest thing to real food either of them will eat (it's human grade, super-pricey).

I haven't tried raw with them in years, but the two or three times I did, they sniffed and refused to even lick it. LOL.

There ARE powdered supplements you can add to raw meat for them (for the minerals, taurine, etc.), one of my coworkers used to do that with her IBD cat (mix with raw hamburger). He loved it. It was a good interim solution for her, until she got him onto raw (not many sources here for raw, took her a while). But he used to hunt and eat his prey too, so he already was accustomed to eating "real" cat food.

Oh Tutu, my poor little darling Wild Woman! I'm sorry, but that stuff was *not* improved by sprinkling whatever-the-heck that was across the top of it. Is your Mommy trying to STARVE you?

Honestly, you needs your regular foods *right now* -- and plenty of it, too! XOXOXOXOXO

Oh, we feel for you! Those aren't good choices. We don't like raw here either, everyone runs from it. We do hope they will allow the food in again soon.

Well, it was a darn good plan for a little while.

Mom refuses to feed us raw. She has had cats all her long long life and they all have done very well on just normal foods. I would think you would have to be so careful with raw food so it doesn't go bad. But good luck Tutu, you tell that Mom of yours to give you some good food. You all take care.

How very, very familiar. And the furry tyrants over here tell me that they love a food, so I buy lots of it. And the very next time I serve it they say 'What is this? POISON. You can't really think we are going to eat THAT!!!!'
Sigh. And good luck.

We kitties know how to exasperate the peeps! I won't eat raw either AND I love to eat the stuff that's not good for me, so it's a constant tussle!! xx

ANGEL ABBYGRACE said...

Annabelle will eat raw but the 3 seniors look at me like what is this *crap*? It needs to be cooked! Because yes they will eat cooked meats! Oh TuTu dear we know your Mommie will find something you and everyone likes!

Tutu, I'm fuzzy too !
I don't do wet food but dried kibbles.
I love raw beef but it have to be so fresh otherwise I won't touch it. I love cooked prawn & fish. When I smell it, I will Meow out loud ;)

Oh, those dismayed faces! Ashton did that when she was first offered the duck raw food. Apparently, it doesn't measure up like the chicken does. She walked out of the kitchen and started howling indignantly about it.

BeadedTail said...

We haven't tried raw food before but we're very picky and will like a food for awhile until we know that Mommy bought a case of it then we don't like it anymore!

Tamago said...

It is too bad your first option is no longer available and second one is having difficulty coming in the country.
I was lucky as it was not too hard for my boys to transition to raw diet. During transition, I got freeze-dried raw food, hydrated it and mixed it with can. And switched can portion to regular raw food. Eventually fully transitioned to regular raw food. I think it takes much patience, especially you have many kids. It's very hard to get something everyone likes!

There's only 3 of us, and we all seem to like something different. Or one day love a food, next day turn our noses up to it. Then the next day we can't get enough of it. It drives the mom crazy.

Angel Prancer Pie said...

Our Mommy says we never like the same thing two days in a row. She says it drives her crazy. Heh-heh.

Annie Bear said...

I love all the pictures! You are trying so hard for your kids. It's a shame about the canned food. I really enjoyed reading all the comments. It seems Annie isn't so unique after all. I hope you find a good solution that works for all the kitties (and you too!).

I got a kick from seeing the different kitty expressions.

Hi Tutu, you WW you! I hope things will start to cool off for you guys pretty soon! Maybe someMommy can make you an ice bed when you get your electricity back!?!

Gattina said...

I always say that I have a restaurant for cats ! Pookie only eats Gourmet can food now since she has no teeth anymore, before she only ate kibbles, Arthur eats both but only eats Felix can food and some kibbles. Rosie only eats kibbles from Hill's "sensitive stomach" and nothing else not even a piece of chicken ! And finally Kim who prefers Whiskas can food. The only one who eats what is served is Mr. G !

Gattina said...

I forgot to mention that our vets in Belgium are against raw food ! To heavy for the stomach of house cats !

Clooney said...

Oh Boomer, the look on your face when you said "Bloody Diet" is quite something! We are sorry to hear that their favorite foods are not available to you now, that is sad and frustrating. Wishing you luck with finding a good food that they all will like.

Yuck, I hate raw too, nice and slow cooked for me, with a little jui :) Mawahwhhhwaa xxoxxx

I have had cats for over 40 years, and never had problems with any of them being finicky. I do now! All three (even Scooter who was never finicky when Wart was here) are super finicky! A sniff or one bite and they all agree to eat or not eat. I can't believe they ALL agree so quickly. I am going nuts. Is this some sort of a cat revolution? conspiracy?

Hannah and Lucy said...

Mum cooks chicken breasts for Hannah which she eats at lunch time (one lasts a couple of days) but she has Sheba wet food (chicken flavour) and steamed and tender Sheba sachets (chicken flavour) plus dreamies treats. Lucy will only eat Sheba cat food - the chicken flavour plus the turkey flavour in white sauce.
She rarely eats more than 2 or 3 treats and neither of them will eat anything fish flavour. They have no interest at all in human food.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

Oh that sounds a bit complicated, sorry to hear the one food they all like isn't going to be a possibility anymore! One of our cats requires a bit of special attention and it makes it tricky because the other doesn't. Good luck!

We're all kind of particular here, especially Moosey. He loves his kibble, but finding a wet food that is healthy for him and that he will eat is always a huge challenge. Good luck!

wow, good luck! These guys, even the dogs don't eat raw, they will eat cooked or rare at least.

Good luck, Mom can't get us to all like the same thing, especially Fiona and Giulietta who are super picky. Must be hard when you have so few options. Hope you kitties don't starve. MOL! Good luck with the transition.
All of my cats get Hill's Prescription diet. The little fosters have always been the problem with sensitive stomaches and associated problems. I recently found a dehydrated food which is pure protein from Stella & Chewy. It comes in a variety of meats and the kittens not only love it but can easily digest it.

Petronela said...

Oh God I am laughing with tears here...:))) poor kitties..they don't like it. My kitties like kibble too, like Tutu, but they also adore canned mean...Good luck sweetie..

LOL. Sorry to hear you're stuck again. I used to cook for the dogs. Then the meat got expensive... so we're back to kibble and home-made food. Sigh...
