Today, I was supposed to bring him back for a follow up but after the bad experience with them and Tutu, I decided to bring him to my regular vet who proceeded to remove the other nail bed (it was still infected and pus filled) and cleaned out the wound. Since he also has some nerve damage to that foot, causing the foot to buckle and him to drag his wound on the ground, I asked if he could device something to help prevent that (the other vet couldn't think of anything).
After some thought, he proceeded to make something like a "cast" which allows the wound to breathe and for me to spray antiseptic on it while keeping it protected from being scrapped along the floor or being chewed by Bernie.
Hopefully we have filled the quota for vet visits for a long time to come! And most important lesson learnt from these 2 experiences, stay away from Dr Doom!

| Doesn't Bernie's foot look like it is wearing a rugby player's helmet? The cast has hardened and I plan to leave it on, even after the wound has healed, at least until the fur grows back...that is if Bernie leaves it alone. :) |

I know this is a strong word, but this is GENIUS! What a super idea he had! That will WORK! By the way, Bernie's coloring is gorgwous. He is beautiful. (a boy should only excuse me for calling him beautiful!)

Oh, well done to this vet! Too bad about Dr. Doom--sad to say, there are a few too many of them out there, both for non-humans and non-humans. That cast is brilliant and we hope it stays on and does the trick!

Wow, your regular vet is the very best. What a great bandage thingy for the rabbit. No more of that darn Dr.Doom. I know just how you feel about going to the vet all the time. Sure glad Bernie could be fixed up. Hope he doesn't chew it off but even if he does, you probably can figure out some way to get it back on. He will probably leave it on long enough to heal fairly well. Well done.

Happy gos to the vet once a month for arthritic shoots and a B-12 shot and that seems to come around every 2 weeks!!! LOL

Poor Bernie...so sorry to hear about his back paw. But the cast is really really a good idea!! It protects the paw and you can still spray antiseptic. It's totally worth the car ride. I hope Bernie will get better soon!!
