I suspect she is the offspring of the big bully (they have the same face) and probably very young, less than a year old. And she is very close to giving birth. She is also very friendly and has settled nicely in the cage I've put up at our porch. She makes no attempt to escape when I let her out for a little exercise.
"I heard cats with a home are given a name. And I would like a home. Could you help the hooman who rescued me come up with a name for me?" |
"I don't know what happened....one day I was just having some fun and now I'm HUGE!" |
We're going to spay her once her babies are weaned, then try to rehome her and her babies. I was thinking of giving her a name so she can start getting used to it. Any suggestions?
And how are Cosmo and Ling taking this? Well, they is no noticeable change in their behaviour and I'm happy to say they have remained civil to each other and there's been no fighting for a while now (and fingers crossed it stays this way!).
I have no experience with anything pregnant and have been reading up as much as I can. If anyone has anything to share, please do leave a comment. It would be much appreciated. Meanwhile, do send vibes for a smooth birth!

She is lovely! I will ask some friends to give you advice.
Bless you for taking in Mama Cat! She is quite pretty, with her tabby flame points. I think a name will come to you as you get to know her a little more.
Fingers crossed for an easy birthing, it looks like there's an army in there.
Thank you for taking her in!! I don't have any experience with pregnant kitties. Do you have a vet you can call for advice (and have on call just in case anything goes wrong)? I hope all goes well!!
Hope she and her offspring are healthy. Watching kittens being born is an experience!
I hope everything goes well for the green eyed mama :-) Good Luck!

What a lovely mama cat! Good luck with her :-)
Wishing you and yours peace, harmony and happiness x
Mom and I tried so hard to answer but it kept saying Server Not Found. We came back to look at Snowflake again.
We wanted to say how kind and loving you are to take mama in along with her babies. She is so fortunate and you are a loving compassionate person.
Mama cat looks very sweet. There is a ton of info on the web that you can read. Do a google search for web pages relating to pregnant cats, birthing kittens, etc. It is best to read up on things ahead of time so you will know if anything is going wrong.
Is the porch cage protected from any other cats or predators? You don't want mama cat to feel threatened in any way as that can affect her labor.
Make sure you are feeding mama cat good kitten food (she will eat a lot!) and put regular clay litter in her box. Stray cats sometimes go into the box during birthing and clumping litter will make a huge mess. At our shelter, we pull the litter out of the cage once mama cat starts having the kittens. Of course, everything may happen during the night when you aren't there to see! You don't want the kittens to eat any clumping litter as they start exploring their world, so keep using clay litter for the kittens.
Good luck!
We're so thankful that you are able to care for the momma kitty! She's very lucky to have you watching out for her and her babies. We don't have any experience with this at all so can't offer advice but we'll be purring for a safe arrival of the babies!
She looks like Arthur's sister ! How nice of you to let her stay with you. I have no experience with pregnant cats I had mine all spayed at 6 months.
For goodness sake don't call her Snow! Something unusual instead, maybe a variant on Careless Girl???
Mama cat found her sweet angel!
So very kind of you to house her. Good luck to mama cat and mama cat's new mummy & daddy
I read about you and the mama kitty you saved, from Brian and the CB. I am a veterinary nurse and have raised Cornish Rex cats for 20 years, and have lots of mama and birthing care experience. I will email you some info and good links to read more about caring for them. She looks about ready to pop! What about Pearl...cuz she's round and precious?
I emailed you a bunch of 'Caring for a Pregnant Cat/New Kittens info, to both the email addresses on your blog--be sure to check it out.
